I have been lure fishing for Bream for over 25 years, and the “Addiction” started early.
Sydney Harbour and surrounding areas were the places I fished most.
Back then, not many people knew what fishing for Bream on lures was all about.
I remember buying lures from America because we could not find much in Australia.
We needed small profile soft plastics that suited the way we fished.
We also hardly used scent at all in those days.
Fish were uneducated and unpressured.
These Bream had never seen a soft plastic grub tail or small crankbait in their lives.
They would hit our lures with gusto.
There was no soft pecking or playing with the lure.
They would pretty much hit it and run.
Fast forward 25 years and the game has changed.
Our waterways are pressured every day.
Competitive and social anglers are all trying to crack that 40cm Sydney Harbour Bream.
There is no doubt these fish have become wiser.
They are consistently harder to catch on lures.
That is especially true on tournament day.
By then, the Bream have often been hit for weeks in advance.
ENTER DIZZY SCENT XXX
Adam Maddalena, who I call "The Cook", from Dizzy Scent is a passionate fisho.
He is also an all round great guy and a wizz at creating lure scents.
Doing business with Adam was easy.
When we approached him with an idea over 6 months ago, he jumped at the chance.
He worked with the Tackle Addiction team from the start.
Nothing was an issue for Adam.
The team at Dizzy Scent worked tirelessly with us.
They made all the ingredients work together and bind into a potent gel.
The end game was to create a lure scent like nothing else on the market.
No expense was spared.
Most scents on the market are designed for broad use.
That might mean saltwater and freshwater in the same formula.
Many have 3 basic ingredients.
That usually means some scent, a colour additive, and inexpensive soft wax.
That wax turns the scent into a gel.
This keeps the cost low.
Mass production is then the name of the game.
Some anglers may compare products like s factor or gulp scent when judging what works for them.
XXX is the complete opposite.
From the get go, we told DIZZY SCENT we wanted a high quality scent.
We wanted only the best ingredients.
There are 13 different additives in this scent.
What makes XXX stand out is TRIPLE the amount of UV enhancement.
It also has triple the bite stimulants and natural flavoured scent.
These are the differences that can convert shy fish into a bite.
(1) UV enhanced means the fish can see your lure under all light conditions.
(2) The fish moves in and captures the scent trail.
(3) The customised BITE Stimulants make the fish react.
They may want to either eat it or attack it.
This is not something learnt from a text book.

I think Adam created around 15 versions of this scent until we got it right.
We wanted a lure scent specific to the Bream scene.

The making of XXX is a lengthy process due to the specific ingredients added.
The scent needs to be "cooked" at specific temperatures.
It is then cooled and re heated to another specific temperature.
After that, it is tumble dried to cool evenly.
This helps the additives bind together.
It also helps stop separation during the process.
What this means is the lure scent is made with the utmost care.
Those steps are specific to our standards.

It has to be made in small batches of around 100 tubes.
That is due to time restraints from the manufacturing process.
